Rhinoplasty Surgery - Dr. Priyadarshan Expert Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon

Rhinoplasty (also known as nose job or nose surgery) is a plastic surgical operation that involves correcting and reconstructing the nose, increasing its functions, and improving its appearance.

What is rhinoplasty and how does it work?

Rhinoplasty is a procedure that alters the appearance of the nose. Because breathing and the shape of the nose are linked, a rhinoplasty may be performed not only to improve the appearance of the nose but also to improve breathing through the nose.

Let’s ask Dr. Priyadarshan, Expert Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon and experienced plastic surgeons in India. He has been practicing plastic surgery since 1994. Over 24 years of experience has gained him incredible expertise in dealing with all sorts of plastic surgeries.

Is Aesthetic Rhinoplasty right for you?

A hump can be removed, a saddle or a depressed nose can be built up or enhanced, and a wide nose or a boxy nasal tip can be narrowed if you have one. The nasal tips can be fine-tuned. Straightening a deviated nose is possible. If you have a little chin or if your cheeks need to be built up for balance, an aesthetic rhinoplasty can be done with chin augmentation or cheek augmentation. A long nose can be made shorter, whereas a short nose can be made longer. If you believe you have one of these noses, Cosmetic Rhinoplasty could help you enhance it.

What is the Rhinoplasty procedure?

The procedure for Rhinoplasty would be determined by the goals. Rhinoplasty can be performed using a traditional closed technique or a newer open technique. All incisions are made inside the nostrils in the closed approach, so nothing is visible from the outside.

In the open procedure, a minor incision is made on the underside of the nose in addition to the incisions inside the nostril. This heals quickly and is barely noticeable in the long term, but it improves exposure and allows for more exact correction under vision. Depending on what is being done, the following steps of the surgery will be taken:

Augmentation

A depressed nose can be built up and made more prominent using either implants or autografts. Autografts could be cartilage from your nose's septum, ears, or ribs. Bone grafts from the skull or hips could also be used. Silicone or medpore implants are commonly used in Rhinoplasty. Every type of material has advantages and disadvantages, which your aesthetic surgeon can explain.

Getting Rid of the Hump

The protrusion of the bone and the prominence of the septum/ cartilage region of the nose contribute to a hump on the nose. This needs to be shaved. The roof of the nose is open after it is removed, and it must be closed with infracture of the nasal bones.

Nasal tip with a boxy shape

This can be polished if the tip of your nose is bulbous or like a button. To get a more proportional and elegant tip, the cartilages that make up the tip of the nose must be sewn securely and reshaped.

The nose is broad.

This is a frequent issue that can be resolved by infrastructure pushing the nasal bones inwards. The nasal tip is frequently narrowed as well. It is also possible to repair a flared or broad nasal base.

Nose deviated

The nose frequently deviates during growth or becomes crooked as a result of damage. The deviated part of the septum can be removed, or straightening stitches and cartilage supports can be used.

What should you expect after surgery?

For the first 24 hours after nasal surgery, there may be a trickle of fluid or blood from the nostrils, which will be caught by a nasal pad placed under the nostrils. To stop the drip, a pack may be placed over the nose for 24 hours. Surgical trauma can often produce swelling of the nose's lining, giving the impression that the nose is bunged up. This sensation can linger up to three weeks. After surgery, there may be some bruising and swelling, which should go away in 3-6 weeks.

If you have infractures, you may need a nasal bridge splint, which will be removed in 7 days. Due to the swelling, you may have difficulties opening your eyes right after surgery. After the next day, this quickly improves. Wounds usually heal within 7 to 2 weeks. Your plastic surgeon and the rest of the staff at Tooth Affair will take great care of your comfort and safety. Swelling at the tip of the nose takes the longest to go down, and it can continue up to three months.

What are the outcomes and prospects?

Your final result will take a while to arrive, usually a few weeks. Incision lines might take up to a year to fully perfect. By three months, the majority of the swelling has subsided. The effects are usually striking and obvious right after the dressing is removed, but the nasal characteristics will continue to refine over the next three months.

What about the healing process and progress?

Incisions normally take 7 to 2 weeks to heal. Around this time, the stitches are removed. Between 2-4 weeks, you should be able to return to work and light routine exercise. After that, you'll be instructed to apply a moisturiser and massage your face and scars. You will be able to resume light work and routine activities, as well as wearing contact lenses, at this time. The healing process will take several weeks. For optimal results, use careful sun protection. Nasal decongestants may be beneficial in the treatment of nasal congestion.
