FUE - How long does it take to explain results?

Don't worry and be grateful that hair transplantation has gone a long way and will cure your hair loss which may be a long-lost hope. Hair transplant nowadays is growing popularity, because it is a permanent hair loss cure. Including recent developments made it a big success in terms of natural outcomes.

What is FUE

FUE is a hair transplant technique involving harvesting and transplantation of up to 4000 individual donor hair follicles from one region of the head into a thinning or bald region. This produces a new hairline and essentially a complete hair replant. The treatment itself only takes one day.
There is less scarring to the donor region because the follicles are removed separately, and no limits on how short the hair will be cut in the future. It produces usually a more cosmetically appealing look.

Is it differ from FUT?

Follicular Unit Transplant is another form of hair transplant technique. This technique is typically cheaper and does not cosmetically produce such good outcomes as donor site scarring occurs. A strip of hair is removed during a FUT operation and the scalp is stitched together using a trichophytic closure to reduce scarring and allow hair to grow through the tissue of the scar. Then the strip is dissected into individual follicles inserted in the bald areas.

When the result will start

Immediately the new hairline should be noticeable–but it may be swollen and scabbed. The donor site can get swelling as well. The surgeon will advise you on a post-surgery treatment plan, usually for the first night or two you are advised to sleep with your head elevated on pillows. You may quickly return to work but many people prefer a longer period of time.
The initial post-surgery redness, swelling and scabbing will subside about a week after treatment and the grafts will be securely in place by day 10. This means you can resume your daily routine of washing, combing, and cutting. It's best to wait a month for chemical treatments like coloring your hair to begin.

You may be shocked to see that within the first few weeks you start losing hair, and your hair starts to look like it did before transplantation. This is fully natural owing to the follicle entering a dormant period after being shortly hungry for blood supply. It is just the hair you lose, not the follicle itself. It is the follicle that enables development and long as this is intact, the development of hair will follow.
When the follicle recovers from the transplant it will start rising. Hair only grows at around 1 cm per month, so your new head of hair will take a few months to become a reality.

As the hair starts developing after about 3 months, the scalp can become spotty and develop an acne-like appearance. This is a positive sign as it means the hairs are trying to force their way through but may get stuck, much like an incubated plant. The first hairs you see may be very thin and even colorless, but they're going to start getting thicker and fuller. Development can even be a little patchy, but it's just part of the cycle of initial growth, and will only come out over time.
The majority of new hairs will grow at about 5 or 6 months and the hair will be at its longest and thickest at 8 to 10 months when the follicles reach maturity. The final results can be expected at about a year, but this may take up to 18 months and after that the color and texture may continue to grow and change slightly.
Everyone is different and has different hair growth rates so all time frames are based on average experiences. The one thing we're sure would be worth waiting for is the test.

One of the best ways to ensure the success of the transplant is to follow the post-transplant advice carefully. We've been treating baldness and thinning hair here at Dr. Priyadarshan Plastic and Cosmetic Center for decades, and have a variety of treatments to rejuvenate the scalp and follicles.

  • Laser therapy uses laser light specialized to cause reaction in dormant follicles
  • Vitamin therapies reverse imbalances and diseases which do not affect your body but which occur in your hair's texture or thickness.
  • PRP treatment requires collecting and adding your own platelets to your scalp to induce the follicles to repair themselves
