Nose Cosmetic Surgery
A nose job also called a
rhinoplasty is surgery on the nose to adjust its shape or enhance its
function. It can be done for medical reasons — for example, to correct
breathing issues related to the nose or to correct disfigurement due to
injuries or birth defects.
This can also be achieved for
aesthetic purposes, which would improve the form and appearance of the nose.
If you're talking about having
a nose job, make an appointment with your surgeon to discuss it. Think about
your expectations during the meeting and tell the doctor what bothers you about
your nose and how you intend to fix it.
Keep in mind that there is no
perfect nose. Surgery, however, will improve facial features and improve your
distinctive and natural appearance. A plastic surgeon will identify the facial
features that make you special and tell you how the changes can enhance your
appearance.
The surgeon must examine the
structure of your nose and other facial features. After this evaluation, he can
tell you if your expectations are realistic.
The surgeon will also
understand your overall health and should address the risks involved, the
recovery time and the costs with you.
There are different nose reshaping techniques. Your surgeon will explain precisely what he or she wants to do after you agree to go ahead.
Surgery
Typically a nose work is
performed as an outpatient operation, meaning that there is no overnight stay.
You can get anesthesia in general or in your local area. With general
anesthesia, you'll sleep through the operation.
You will be sedated with local anesthesia and your nose will get numbed so that you will be comfortable and unable to feel the pain.
Recovery
People typically wear a nasal
splint for the first week after a nose job. Following surgery, you should
anticipate swelling and some bruising around your eyes which will start to
improve after the third day. However, it can last for up to two weeks.
Expect a little swelling in
your nose which will possibly only be detected by you and your surgeon. That's
going to go down over the next six months. The nose's final form will become
evident after it has healed fully.
Strenuous exercise should be stopped three to six weeks after surgery. You may return to your social activities without any obvious indications that you had a procedure done within two to three weeks.
